SheJumps Avalanche Awareness Evening in Bend, OR
December 19, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
SheJumps is excited to offer an avalanche awareness evening for women, taught by local backcountry skier and avalanche educator Alli Miles! This is a great opportunity to begin learning about avalanche terrain, or brush up on the basics before the next season of backcountry shredding.
Presentation topics will include identification of avalanche terrain, why and how avalanches happen, best practices for travel in avalanche terrain, local and regional resources to use throughout the season, and upcoming opportunities for more in-depth avalanche education in central Oregon this season.
Alli is a Bend-based backcountry skier who is passionate about avalanche education and encouraging winter backcountry users to take advantage of available resources in order to make good decisions and stay safe. She works full-time in the marketing department at Ruffwear, regularly skiing the Cone and Tumalo before work with her dog Riggins, and serves on the board of directors for the Central Oregon Avalanche Association. Alli attended the SheJumps Alpine Finishing School in 2016 and taught a companion rescue clinic at the SheJumps Get Out the Girls Mt. Bachelor event in 2018. Inspired in part by these experiences, Alli has begun the process of becoming an AIARE avalanche instructor and AMGA ski guide. She is excited to continue building her professional experiences while sharing her learnings with others.
Our mission is to increase the participation of women & girls in outdoor activities. We accomplish this by creating high-visibility “Get the Girls Out!” events, Outdoor Education, Youth Initiatives and grassroots recreational gatherings. The SheJumps community consists of females of all backgrounds and ages who help one another reach their highest potential through outdoor adventures and education.
